Do you have breed restrictions for Boarding?
While we love all breeds at Puppy Haven, we do have certain regulations in place for safety. We do not permit pit bulls, american bullys, cane corsos, presa canarios, akitas, boerboels, mastiffs and dogo argentinos. We do accept mixed breeds.
Can my dog get canine cough?
Canine cough, also referred to as kennel cough, is a general term for a cold your dog can get if they are exposed to other dogs or areas where other dogs have been. This includes daycare, the groomer, veterinarian’s office, in dog training class, at a dog park, or in your neighborhood on a walk. These infections are similar to a cold in humans and the vast majority of dogs quickly recover. Symptoms include coughing or hacking, sneezing, running nose, eye discharge, lethargy, loss of appetite, and/or fever. If your dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, you should seek veterinary care immediately to begin treatment and minimize the risk of a secondary infection. Puppies, elderly dogs, and dogs with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to contracting canine cough.
What precautions does Puppy Haven take to reduce the risk of canine cough?
All the dogs in our care are required to be current on vaccinations, including Bordetella, which protects against certain strains of canine cough. Additionally, our facilities are regularly monitored for clean air and have vigorous disinfecting procedures in place. Our team members are trained on canine cough and if symptoms are detected, dogs are immediately isolated, the pet parent is notified, and the dog is either picked up or taken to a veterinarian.
